October is Women’s Ride Month, and in conjunction with Specialized we are pleased to be holding a number of events and shop rides in and around Alexandra, that we hope will provide a greater opportunity for women to experience the joy of cycling.
This is part of the overall Healthy Catch Ups initiative by Specialized, which is all about connecting with friends, challenging yourself and riding your bike. Check out the Healthy Catch Ups website, for a bit of inspiration, including some great looking recipes.
NEWBIE ROAD RIDE – TUESDAYS – 6PM: The Cider Riders road ride is the ultimate in women’s social cycling, and although this regular ride is not directly affiliated with Rock & Road Cycles, we highly endorse it. But we appreciate these rides may be a bit intimidating for newcomers, so this October, Emma will be there dedicated to riding at a cruisier pace and distance. So dust off that unloved roadie, and come join us! We’ll meet at 6pm opposite Monteiths and then after the ride, will head back to Monteiths for a drink and a Women’s Ride Month special of complimentary Breads and Spreads. Yum!
The regular Cider Riders group will still be happening at the same time, so if you’re already confident on your bike, you can head off with those ladies. And there will probably even be a few girls heading out on their mountain bikes. We’ll all meet at the same time and place, and then hopefully we can make it back to Monteiths around the same time.
Registrations are not required for these rides… just rock up on the night.
NO BOYS ALLOWED – WEDNESDAY 5 OCTOBER – 1PM: This ride is for young female riders, from 10 – 13 years old. We’ll meet at Rock & Road Cycles at 1pm, and then we’ll head out the Rail Trail to Clyde, and back along the River Track. To ensure we can provide a safe, supervised and fun experience, spaces are limited, therefore register now to secure your spot. Mothers/caregivers are most welcome to join us.
This event is now closed.
BEGINNERS TECH NIGHT – THURSDAY 6 OCTOBER – 7PM: At Rock & Road Cycles. Learn the basics, from changing a flat tyre to basic bike maintenance, in a relaxed and fun environment. Please bring your bike and any bike tools you already own. There is no charge, but registration is essential, and spaces are limited.
This event is now closed.
LUNCH MTB RIDE – THURSDAYS – 1PM: (Beginning 13 October) This is simply an opportunity to sneak out for a day-time (non-technical) ride with the girls, before the after school pickup. We will meet at 1pm at Rock & Road Cycles, and will head out for 1 – 1.5 hours.
Registrations are not required for these rides… just turn up with your mountain bike.
Please note: these rides will continue throughout the school terms.
POP UP DEMO – THURSDAY 20 OCTOBER – 1PM: We’ll have a small demo fleet of bikes from Specialized in town this week, and since it’s WRM, we’re going to take advantage of this. Instead of our regular lunchtime Thursday ride, we’ll be taking the trailer up to Flat Top Hill, and you are welcome to come and have a try.
Butchers Dam Carpark, 1pm – 3pm.
WINE TOUR – SUNDAY 6 NOVEMBER – 1PM: Back for its third year, this is the absolute highlight of Women’s Ride Month (even though it’s in November!). We will meet at Rock & Road Cycles at 1pm, and then cruise around (on our bikes) at a very relaxed pace to a few of the local wineries for some tastings, with our final stop at Monteiths in the early evening, for a complimentary BBQ.
Cost: $25 per person.
Registration is essential and although they are not compulsory, frocks are highly recommended.
