Alexandra is renowned for its dry sunny summers, bitterly cold winters, rugged schist hills and now, thanks to these elements… for its wine. There are more than 20 vineyards nestled within the Alexandra basin, with many of them open to the public for tastings and wine purchases. And what better way to explore these than by bike.
Rock & Road Cycles is pleased to offer ‘Rolling Vines’. This is a fantastic one-day cycling experience among the vineyards of the Alexandra basin. Get a group of friends, family or workmates together and explore all this beautiful area has to offer.
Cost: $75 per person
- Bike hire (including helmet)
- Booking fee for 3 wineries – the actual tastings are complementary
- Map with customised route planning – we will talk to you about how far you want to ride, which wineries might interest you etc, and help you plan the best route for your group
- Discount voucher from Monteiths Brewery Bar Alexandra – perfect for an evening drink or meal at the end of your day
And if you decide to purchase wine, the wineries are happy to deliver this back to Alexandra for you (minimum purchase may be applicable). Please discuss this with the individual wineries.
You can take as long as you like at each winery, and move on only when you are ready. All you need to worry about is remembering to pack some sun-block.
Plus, we will also have number of optional add-ons available (at an extra cost), to allow you to plan your perfect day – we are currently finalising these add-ons, and hope to have a list of options and associated costs up here soon.
We have chosen the Specialized Roll for our wine tours. The Roll, new this season, lends itself to very relaxed, comfortable riding, casual attire and enjoyable days, and of course, to Wine Tours.
As this is our first season for Rolling Vines, we are starting out with a small fleet of 6 bikes. Therefore, prior booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
When you collect your bikes, we will spend some time talking with you about the different wineries available, opening hours, lunch spots etc, to help you plan the best route for your group. Some wineries will be open throughout the summer, while others only by appointment. But in case you want to do a bit of research (or if you’ve come back here wanting to buy some of the fabulous wine you tasted) here’s the full list of the wineries we are working with…
- Como Villa Estate
- Clyde Village
- 8 Ranges
- Hinton Estate Vineyard
- Legacy Vineyard
- Judge Rock
- Shaky Bridge
- Three Miners
- Two Paddocks
- Weaver Estate Wines
At the End of the Day
If you roll back into town while our shop is still open, you can return the bikes directly to us. However we realise you might be enjoying yourself too much to worry about menial details like time, so for after-hours drop-offs, you can leave your bikes with the awesome team at Monteiths Brewery Bar Alexandra, just down the road at 26 Centennial Ave. And since you’re there, you might as well pop in for post-ride drink, snack or meal, and redeem your $5 discount voucher.
